Privacy Policy
The Dearkept app has no account, no analytics and no networking code. Your photos, your Vault Code and your recovery words stay on your iPhone unless you choose to move them somewhere. This website uses analytics according to your region and privacy choices.
Who we are
Dearkept is an iPhone app and this website, dearkept.com. For any personal information handled through the website or by email, the controller is Dearkept. Contact us at hello@dearkept.com.
The app
No collection. Dearkept does not collect, store or send any personal information about you. There is no sign-up, no email address, no password and no identifier of ours. The app contains no analytics, no advertising and no networking code, so it never talks to a server of ours and no data about your use of the app reaches us.
Your photos. Photos you add are encrypted on your iPhone before they appear in your library, then read back and compared with the original before Dearkept calls them verified. Your originals in the Photos app are never deleted or changed. The encrypted library lives inside the app on your iPhone.
Your Vault Code and recovery words. The 8-digit Vault Code and the 12 recovery words are created on your iPhone and are never sent anywhere by Dearkept. We cannot see them, recover them or reset them. If you lose the Vault Code and have not saved your recovery words, your photos stay encrypted and nobody can open them, including us.
Backups and exports. A backup is written only when you ask for one, to a folder you choose in the Files app. If you choose an iCloud Drive folder, iOS moves that file to iCloud because you asked it to, under Apple's terms and Apple's privacy policy. The same applies when you export photos to Files or back to Photos, or share your recovery words through the share sheet. Dearkept has no part in that transfer beyond writing the file.
Permissions. Dearkept asks for access to your photo library only to copy the photos you pick. It does not read your location from photos, your contacts or anything else.
Purchases
Dearkept Pro is bought through Apple's in-app purchase system. Apple handles payment and your Apple Account details; we never receive your card details or your Apple Account information. The app checks your subscription status with Apple's StoreKit on the device. Apple's privacy policy covers that processing. Your first 100 photos are free without any purchase.
This website
Website analytics. Google Analytics 4 helps us understand which pages people visit, where visits come from and when someone clicks an App Store button. Google receives technical information such as browser and device details, a cookie identifier and page interactions. Google processes IP addresses to provide the service but does not log or store them in Google Analytics. We remove query strings and fragments from page addresses and send only the referring website's origin. We do not send your email, photos, Vault Code, recovery words or activity in the Dearkept app.
Regional defaults. For visitors identified as being in the United States, basic website analytics starts automatically unless you have turned it off or your browser sends a privacy signal. In the European Economic Area, the UK, Switzerland and all other locations, we wait for you to choose “Allow analytics”. No Google Analytics script loads and no analytics data is sent to Google before that choice in those locations. We use Cloudflare's country determination through a request to this website to select the default; we do not request GPS access or store your IP address or country in that check. If the check fails or the location is unknown, we ask for consent.
Your choice. You can turn analytics off or change your choice at any time using Cookie settings in the footer. We honor a saved refusal in every region. We also keep analytics off when your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, even if you previously allowed analytics. Turning analytics off stops future collection and removes this site's Google Analytics cookies from your browser; it does not undo information already collected. Your explicit preference is stored on your device for up to six months. If browser storage is unavailable, your choice applies only to the current page.
Cookies and retention. When analytics is on, Google Analytics uses cookies named _ga and _ga_… to distinguish visits. We limit their lifetime to 60 days and use a two-month retention period for user and event data in Analytics. Aggregated reports may be retained longer. Advertising features and Google Signals are disabled. We do not use analytics for advertising or link it to your identity.
Google's role. Google processes analytics information on our behalf, potentially on servers outside your country, under its Data Processing Terms. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Where we ask for consent, that is our basis for this optional processing.
App Store links. Our App Store buttons include a campaign name so Apple's App Store Connect can report aggregate visits and downloads attributed to this website. These links contain no identifier for you. Apple handles the App Store under its own privacy policy. This does not add analytics to the Dearkept app.
Hosting. The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any hosting provider, Cloudflare may process technical information such as your IP address, browser details, the pages requested and timestamps to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We use that information, when we look at it at all, only to keep the site working and secure.
Fonts and images are served from dearkept.com itself, not from a third-party service.
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to include. We use it to reply and to fix what you report. Messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with them, then deleted. We do not add you to any mailing list and we do not share your message with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
Children
The Dearkept app does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. The website is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect children's personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, tell us at hello@dearkept.com so we can address it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to how it is used, or to receive a copy. The app collects nothing; these rights may apply to website analytics or email you have sent us. You can turn off website analytics or withdraw consent through Cookie settings. Write to hello@dearkept.com for other requests and we will respond. If you are in the UK or the European Union and are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to your data protection authority, which in the UK is the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date at the top. The app's behaviour described above, no account, no analytics, no networking code, is part of the product's design and any change to it would come with a new app version and a new policy.
